In 2002-2003, Highmarks won a $100,000 Innovation and Research Grant from the National Science Foundation of the United States. This grant was used for early R&D on Highmarks flagship product Highmarks Compass.
Since its founding, Highmarks has filed two extensive patents on its technology for all market areas; both are patent-pending, with an initial positive response from the USPTO.
